Who is Ryan IRving, JR.?

Ryan C. Irving, Jr., at 23 years of age, is a student at the University of Houston Honors College pursuing a degree in Political Science. He will graduate in December of 2021. Prior to attending the University of Houston, Ryan attended Lone Star College Cy-Fair where he was on the Dean’s list. Ryan attended school in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) graduating from Langham Creek High School in 2016. He was involved in many activities including basketball at Cypress Falls High School and Langham Creek High School, ran on the track team and participated on the debate team.

Ryan served as an intern for City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner in 2017 where he gained first-hand knowledge and experience working in city government and evaluating the city’s over $5 billion budget. He is a current member of the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. In 2019, Ryan was a candidate in a very close race for CFISD Board of Trustees. In 2020, Ryan became a member of the CFISD Community Leadership Committee, a volunteer group of parents, business people, and retirees of the district who believe that having a strong independent school district is important to the economic well-being of the Cypress-Fairbanks community. In Ryan’s spare time, he mentors younger students who are interested in how government works. He also volunteered in registering citizens of all ages to vote in the 2020 election.

Ryan is running for CFISD School Board Trustee because of his passion and calling to public service, especially within his own school community. CFISD had the biggest impression on his life as a young student growing up. He is a direct product of the school district’s amazing teachers who played a large role in his current success, nurturing his mind and shaping his character into the young, confident man he is today. He has the skills and the drive to serve the community that served him in a way that most will never understand. Ryan’s own life experience taught him that teachers are the backbone of public education and also a significant force in young lives who may be facing hardship at home. He had many dedicated teachers to guide him, and believes it is his time to serve CFISD educators, students and staff members as a school board trustee. Ryan wishes to further the success of the district as it continues to grow, and the vision and value of the community become more diverse. His belief:

Ryan's Background
Ryan was raised in a single-parent household. As a high school student, he faced economic hardships which affected his plans to attend a major University immediately upon graduation. He was close to facing homelessness during sophomore year when there was a downturn in the oil and gas industry. Ryan persevered with the help and encouragement of his teachers and graduated from Langham Creek High School in 2016. Although Ryan faced difficult challenges in his early years along with the disappointment of not getting accepted into the University of his choice, he persisted towards a higher education. He took a different route and attended Lone Star College – Cy-Fair where he became an honor student making the Dean’s list more than once. Two years later in 2018, Ryan was accepted to the University of Houston’s Honors College which ranks in the” top 10” for honors colleges in the United States.

Ryan strongly believes he would not have made it without his teachers and administrators in CFISD who consistently encouraged him along the way. They saw his potential and did not cease to remind him of his capabilities and to follow his dreams. His third-grade teacher even attended his high school graduation traveling all the way from Kingwood to be present. Ryan says she kept a promise she made back when he was her student at Andre Elementary. His former CFISD teachers are his inspiration for running for school board trustee. Ryan will serve CFISD students, teachers and staff just as CFISD served him.
